A sharp retort threatened to follow but Aidan had to admit Dutch had a point. He was a grouch. The pressure of keeping Pop’s construction business above water in this down economy was killing him. Of course, Dutch — although he’d inherited half of the business as well — was happy to let him shoulder the load while he chased pretty tail and lived like a trust fund baby with very little responsibility and that was beginning to rub him raw. Most times, particularly lately, if they hadn’t been born twins, he’d have questioned whether or not they were related at all.
So here he was at The Dancing Frog being his brother’s wingman, with the unlikely goal of finding someone to help scratch an itch, and wondering if Dutch would even notice if he slipped out the back door.
Trolling a bar wasn’t his style. It felt sleazy.
Dutch returned with a beer and handed it to him. “You suck at this,” he said above the pulsing music. “You have to mingle, get out there, mix it up, if you want to land a fish on the hook.” Dutch scanned the crowd as he swigged his beer, a predatory look sharpening his features. “Ah, right there,” he said, pointing discreetly at a curvy red-head, laughing with a group of girls and sipping at some frou-frou drink. “That’s the one. Go for it.”
“Not my type.” She looked high maintenance. The last thing he needed was a chick who wanted to be wined and dined.
Dutch pulled Aidan closer so he could yell in his ear. “You’re missing the point of this excursion. It’s about getting laid, having a good time — not finding a girlfriend. You savvy?”
Aidan was embarrassed to admit he didn’t remember the rules of that particular game. Maybe at one time he’d been a player same as Dutch but that guy seemed miles away from the man he was today. “I don’t know,” he said, swigging his own beer, his gaze bouncing from the red-head and returning. She was certainly hot. That red hair alone was enough to pull his eyeballs from his sockets. Generous, lush curves swelled in hills and valleys and as he finished his beer, the liquid courage helped send his imagination to places he realized he’d very much like to see and experience in the flesh. Was she a genuine redhead? Would he find a patch of strawberry curls or a neatly groomed landing strip? Were her breasts tipped with generous rose-hued nipples or tight little buds? He swallowed a groan as he tortured himself with his current train of thought, his groin tightening with an eagerness fit for a teenage boy with his first sexual experience. At thirty-two, he was no teenager but at the moment, his Jockey snake was twitching like one.
As if she knew someone was watching her, her stare caught his and held. Something electric snapped along his body and all that repressed sexual energy bounded — no, roared — to life.

A MUST read!!!! Kimberly Van Meter is an amazing author, I read the whole book in one sitting, I felt as though I personally knew and connected with Laurel. This book will keep you on the edge of your chair with anticipation! The story line keeps you fully engaged while Ms. Van Meter's creative writing keeps you flipping the pages.
You love Laurel and Aiden the minute they meet. The steamy scenes are awesome and well written. This book makes me want to remodel my house several times and I want a claw bath tub. I love this book because it shows you that just because you think you are always picking the wrong guy and are cursed, that your not if you just keep your options open. Loved this book!!!!
Loved it! Think of it as if a modern-day Elizabeth Bennet, burned by Wickham and Darcy, was NOT going to make the same mistake again. (Laurel's certainly got the "prejudice," and the slutty sister down.) Ohhh, Mr. Jones!
Laurel Kenning is convinced her marriage material gauge is severely malfunctioning. Her most recent disastrous relationship ended in a trip to the police station to report that her ex has stolen her fine china so maybe it's time to give up the dream of a happily-ever-after and true love and settle on some scorching sex with no illusions of a trip down the aisle. Under advisement of her friends Laurel decides to satisfy her naughtier side and engage in a little down and dirty, hot and heavy sex with a stranger.
Aidan doesn't have time for romance. He's too busy trying to keep Eagle's Construction, which he and his twin brother inherited, from drowning under a mountain of debt. That doesn't mean he doesn't have sexual desires which is why he agreed to accompany his brother Dutch to a local bar trolling for women even though he's not entirely comfortable with the idea of a casual hookup, but even his scruples can't resist the allure of a spunky red-head.
Aidan decides to approach the sexy red-head fully prepared to use all his charm and finesse to reel her in but much to his surprise her only concern is whether or not he has a condom. Without even exchanging names she pulls him into a small, private room where she acts on every single one of her desires then with a smile and "see you around" disappears from his life. Or that's what the intention was but not entirely what happens. You see, Laurel has bought a home and it needs some reconstruction so she's hired Eagle Construction to do the job but is completely unaware that her sexual tryst partner is the one who will be arriving on her doorstep. To make matters worse, Laurel's younger sister Calliope's latest antics have landed her on the outs with their mother and Calliope arrives on Laurel's doorstep needing a place to stay. With a sexy as hell contractor driving her libido crazy, rioting emotions, a sister in residence intent on seducing the contractor, friends with contradicting advice and a business to run Laurel's life has become A RED HOT MESS in a very short period of time. With a little creativity and plenty of soul searching Laurel just might find a way to salvage her sanity and obtain the happily-ever-after she'd given up on.
Laurel seems to be the poster child for Murphy's Law. It appears that anything that can go wrong does - and the results are hysterically funny. A casual encounter with a stranger is so out of character for her and then to have that same man show up on her doorstep as her contractor is just the beginning of her troubles. Throw in a sister hell bent on driving everyone crazy and you have the makings for a fun-filled dramatic read that is sure to delight readers. Now that being said; there's still plenty of emotional appeal and `growing up' that takes place throughout the storyline as well as some red hot lovin' that'll stir your senses and warm your heart. I'm definitely hoping for some follow up stories for Laurel's friends Tansy and Alice as well as Calliope... and I'd really like to know what happened to Laurel's no show client, George Stutten.
